Today I’m so excited to share with you my newest kitchen gadget! OXO sent us this amazing Chef’s Mandoline to try out and I cannot sing it’s praises enough!

If you know me, you know I am NOT the chef of our family. BTR is definitely the one who can slice and dice and cook it up. I’m admittedly afraid of knives because I kind of don’t know what I’m doing with them.

But with this OXO Chef’s Mandoline I can slice pretty much anything and not be scared! We decided to test it out a few different ways using potatoes.

You can easily slice with this mandoline using one of the TWENTY-ONE different thickness settings. Yes I said 21. Two. One. Add in the straight and wavy settings along with built in julienne blades and the possibilities are endless with this slicer.

The first thing we cut was slices of sweet potatoes. Do you know how dense sweet potatoes are? This slicer handled them like a champ and we quickly had evenly cut slices ready to season.

My favorite way to eat sweet potatoes is to coat them in olive oil and chili powder and then bake. Which is exactly what we did.

I used a big ziplock to easily and quickly (and cleanly) coat the potatoes and then laid them on a pan to bake at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes. I also flipped them halfway through.

While the sweet potatoes were baking I switched blades (which is super easy to do) and set the slicer up to do waffle cuts.

I can’t tell you how excited I was to make waffle fries at home. And I couldn’t believe how easy it was to do! You just pop in the wavy slicing blade and turn the dial to waffle. The food holder is spring loaded so it’s super easy to handle and easily stores on the bottom of the mandoline so you won’t lose it.

The trick is to turn your potato 90 degrees every time you run it over the blade. So easy.

They turned out perfect!

I laid the waffle fries out and seasoned them with some seasoning salt before baking at 400 degrees again. These are pretty thin fries so they don’t take long to bake at all, like less than 15 minutes!

After I had the waffle fries baking I decided to try make regular french fries with the julienne blades. You can do squares in either 1/4″ or 1/8″. I decided to go bigger with 1/8″ and they were the perfect thickness! Next time I might cut my potato in half again before slicing and not make them quite as long.

I seasoned these fries with olive oil and seasoning salt before baking at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes.

And to no one’s surprise, Ezra couldn’t get enough! He literally climbed on top of the picnic table to stuff his mouth.
