Welcome to Jude’s big boy room!
Y’all, I am SO excited for this post. I took these pictures a while ago, I don’t know why I haven’t shared them sooner! Let’s start with the door tag I made on the laser. Jude and Ezra each have one and I love how they turned out.
Of course, I know that’s not why you’re here. You guys, I just cannot get over how much I love this bed. BTR took the plans from Jen Woodhouse and modified them ever so slightly to work for us. And it came out absolutely perfect. And if you ask him to make you one he will say yes, but it will cost you five million dollars and a week of babysitting! :)
I have so many favorite things about this room, I kind of want to move into it myself. This rug c/o Lorena Canals is everything and totally pulls the room together. Believe it or not, but it’s washable. Like you can actually put it into your washing machine when it gets dirty. How perfect for a messy toddler!
Moving on to the next amazing BTR project, the tree bookshelf. BTR got an old log, sanded it down, and then cut shelves to go around it. It is so much fun! Let’s just hope Jude doesn’t think he can climb it.
I had so much fun filling the shelves with his favorite books and trinkets. We bought the SLU bear when we found out we were pregnant with him and we gave him the stuffed Curious George when Ezra was born (George’s shirt says “Go Bananas, I’m a big brother”). The little voodoo doll is from NOLA when Brandon and I went there on our babymoon. And of course, all of his favorite books are right there! We moved his PBK anywhere chair into his room and he loves sitting in it. Or using it to climb over the rail and into the bed. Same difference.
We bought an unfinished pine dresser from IKEA and stained it. In these pictures I don’t have anything on top of it, but we are currently still using it as a changing table. I’m thinking of switching out the drawer pulls, but I haven’t found any I’m in love with yet.
I brought the chevron curtains from Jude’s nursery over to this room and the curtain hardware is from Home Depot. I also brought two of the art prints I originally designed for his nursery over to hang next to the window.
The large J on the wall is the same white J that used to hang on his wood wall. BTR covered it in scrap wood from the shop. I love how it reminds me of the wood wall of his first room!
This canvas used to hang above his changing table but now it’s behind his door. It’s the lyrics to Better Together by Jack Johnson, which is one of our favorite songs.
His bed is filled with his stuffed animal crew, which consists of puppy, more puppy, big puppy, Cookie, Elmo, pig, and baby pigs 1, 2, and 3. I really just needed to write that all out because I don’t ever want to forget how much he loves all of them! Normally they are thrown all over his bed. The blanket is a dream blanket from Aden + Anais and he loves snuggling with it, but he still hasn’t figured out how to sleep under it! I found the cloud sheets at Target and I love how they fit with the theme of his room!
I designed and cut the clouds on the laser to match the clouds on his sheets. I think I want to cut a few more to go across the top of his bed and above his closets doors.
And in case you were wondering (you probably weren’t), Ellie totally approves of the new room and loves hiding under the bed. I’ve locked her in there a few times during naptime on accident!
I had so many fears about transitioning Jude to a different room when Ezra arrived. I mean he never climbed out of his crib and we had built that amazing wood wall for his room. I was also so nervous he would be mad at Ezra for taking his room. And of course, we didn’t do a single thing for his new room before Ezra arrived. On Ezra’s due date (and when he still wasn’t showing any signs of arriving) we decided to make that weekend our work weekend to make Jude’s bed and the room. But when you make plans God laughs and then you go into labor! So BTR worked on the new bed during Jude’s naptime for the two weeks he was off work after E was born. And the first night we put Jude in it, we were prepped for the worst. But guess what? He never climbed out and slept through the night! And he still hasn’t tried climbing out during naps or at night!
I think he really loves his new room and bed and he has an amazing papa to thank for it all!
